Backhaul Options
Terrestrial Connectivity: this popular backhaul solution like Fiber or DSL is impractical in remote areas. The difficulty to lay out such wiring due to the terrain is often close to impossible or prohibitively expensive
Microwave Connectivity: There are however 2 important factors that must be taken into account:
1. The terrain must allow for clear line of site between BTS and BSC
2. the distance between the BTS and the controller should be under 50KM, otherwise the earth’s curvature will block the site
When a larger range needs to be covered the Microwave solution falls short, since the cost increases significantly
